Con McLoughlin - Nutritional Therapy Therapist

Con McLoughlin has a diploma in Nutritional Threapy from the Irish Institute of Nutrition and Health and is a member of the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI) and the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT). He has a background in science from UCD and as a chef for 30 years working in Belgium and subsequently in Ireland including the award winning Lettercollum House Restaurant in Timoleague. He now divides his time between the shop in Clonakilty, his Nutritional Therapy practice and, with his wife Karen Austin, running cooking classes and cooking holidays in France and Spain.

    Con is conducting a series of cooking classes aimed at those who wish to use food not only as a source of pleasure and enjoyment but also as a way to improve their health. The classes will take place at “Fionnuisce”, Herons Court, Bandon, Co. Cork except the Whole Food Cooking class which will be hosted in Timoleague. All of the courses cost €95.00 and will include tastings and lunch.

    Cooking for Health & Vitality (16th January at Fionnuisce, Bandon)

    Take your health and vitality seriously as you journey through the theory and preparation techniques for warding certain illnesses. Move beyond the research and lectures and actually learn how to prepare meals using the foods discussed. Focus is on nutritional wellness, keys to digestion and the proven ways some foods can reduce the symptoms of certain illnesses. Go home with introductory knowledge of cooking for health and a collection of recipes to try.

    Gluten Free Cooking (Saturday 20th Feburary at Fionnuisce)

    Learn to cook a series of gluten and wheat free recipes. You will discuss and practice making a range of dishes, from baked goods and breakfasts to scrumptious lunches,

    dinners and snacks, using whole food ingredients. Learn about gluten free whole grains that are widely available — amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat, rice and millet

    Whole Food Cooking (Saturday April 17th at Fionnuisce)

    This course is designed to help you understand how to cook wholesome, health supportive and delicious meals (mostly vegetarian, but not at all restricted to), using a variety of wholefoods, including: fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, wholegrains and legumes, sea vegetables, natural sweeteners and good quality fats. Organic ingredients are used wherever possible.

    Cooking for Weight Loss & Low GL cooking (Saturday May 8th at Lettercollum)

    Equip yourself with the recipes that will enable you to lose weight and balance your blood sugar naturally. Be inspired to make food choices that enable you to lose or maintain weight loss without feeling deprived. In this course you’ll explore menus that make use of healthy fats and natural sweeteners. There will also be plenty of time dedicated to preparing dishes that will please your palate and support your weight loss goals. Low GI cooking is a way to avoid the mood swings associated with eating refined foods and sugar.
